Critique
Carvalho et al. (2004) coined this taxon using one genus and one higher level taxon Notosuchiformes. Defined in this manner, it is less than obvious how the definition would apply to any one of several alternative phylogenies. According to their cladogram, this taxon may also be redundant with Metasuchia as commonly used, alhtough they do not include Eusuchia on their cladogram. There is no sense in creating another weakly supported taxon, especially when relationships of Stolokrosuchus are poorly known (considered a peirosaurid by this author).
