Critique | Carvalho et al. (2005:24) coined Baurusuchoidea to encompass Baurusuchidae and Sebecidae (Price 1945). Whether Baurusuchoidea in this sense is monophyletic is a mjaor question. If it is monophyletic, Baurusuchoidea would constitute a junior synonym of Sebecoidea (Simpson 1937) or Sebecosuchia Simpson 1937. Although listed by Carvalho et al. (2004, 2005) as a new taxon, the family-group was initially named by Price (1945). Presumably unintentionally, Carvalho et al. (2005) offered a first-order revision of the definition they proposed a year earlier, substituting Sebecus for Sebecidae as an internal specifier. |
