Critique
Acrocanthosauridae was coined by Molnar (2001:342) without explanation in a chapter on bone pathologies in theropods.  He mentioned Carcharodontosaurus saharicus, and so one presumes this is a family-level taxon with similar content to that already proposed for Carcharodontosauridae by Sereno et al. (1996).  Should the relationships of Acrocanthosaurus be resolved in a very different configuration than in Sereno et al. (1996), the taxon may ultimately have some utility.  For now, it is regarded as inactive.
