Critique
No definition has been proposed. This family-level taxon was first referred to by Charig et al. (1965:215), who proposed a new family for the “Blikana dinosaur,” which at that time had yet to be named. Hence, they elected to leave this family unnamed. The family, genus and species were named 20 years later by Galton and van Heerden (1985). They regarded the family as monotypic and thus redundant with Blikanasaurus, usage followed by Galton (1990). This taxon has not been used by many later authors, some of whom regarrd Blikanasaurus cromptoni as a basal sauropod (Upchurch et al. 2004).
