Critique
No definition has been proposed. This taxon, coined by Simpson (1937), was used by Romer (1956) as a suborder including the monotypic family Sebecidae and the family Baurusuchidae, a usage later followed by Steel (1973). Doubt has been cast on the monophyly of these taxa. Recently, Carvalho et al. (2005:24) coined the taxon Baurusuchoidea Price 1945 for the same clade, which is clearly preceded either by Sebecoidea (Simpson 1937) or Sebesuchia Simpson 1937.
