Critique
Avifilopluma was coined and defined by Gauthier and de Queiroz (2001:25). The taxon is based on a form-qualified (”apomorphy-based”) stem-based definition that includes Archaeopteryx lithographica and other stem avians that have feathers, a concept here regarded as problematic in practice for several reasons (Sereno 2005).
