Critique
The taxon was coined and defined by Paul (2002) as “all Aves in which the free caudals were reduced to ten or fewer or are descended from such avians, and are members of the same clade as Neornithes.” As such this taxon would have equivalent taxonomic content to Ornithurae (sensu Gauthier 1986; Sereno 1998). It is a diifferent taxon, however, because it has a form-qualified stem based definition rather than simply a stem-based definition like Ornithurae. The ultility of such a taxon that clearly overlaps so closely with another is questionable.
