Vulcanodontidae, coined as a redndant taxon, may become an active taxon but at the moment is based on a single synapomorphy that links two incompletely known species, Vulcanodon karibaensis and Tazoudasaurus naimi (Allain et al. 2004). If this synapomorphy does not hold, it is redundant with Vulcanodon karibaensis.
