Critique
Thyreophoridea, coined by Nopcsa (1928), was used by Sereno (1986) as a taxon including Scelidosurus, segosaurs and anlylosaurs. This puts suprafamilial taxa, such as Stegosauria, in a subordinate position relative to the superfamilial taxon Thyreophoroidea. Norman has recently challenged the basal psotion of Scelidosurus within Thyreophopra. Although this may not be sustained, the contents of Thyreophoroidea are similar enough to that of Thyreophora to render the taxon of little use. For these reasons, no definition is provided here for this taxon.
