Comments
Stegosaurinae was initially defined by Sereno (1998) as a stem-based taxon. the active definition is a first-order revision that uses species as specifiers (Stegosaurus stenops, Dacentrurus armatus). Sereno (1998:61) misspelled the taxon and erroneously attributed the first use of the taxon Stegosaurinae Nopcsa 1917 to Abel (1919).
