Critique | This taxon was erected on the belief that herrerasurids constitute the sister taxon to other dinosaurs, and that that other dinosaurs should be named Eudinosauria (Novas 1992). This does not appear to be the case. Herrerasaurids were shortly thereafter linked with theropods by Novas and others, altthough there is still some dissent on this point (e.g. Holtz and Padian 1995, Fraser et al. 2002, Langer 2004). Dinosauria, in the meantime, has been widely cited and defined on the basis of deeply nested genera within Ornithischia and Saurischia (starting the following year in 1993). It makes little sense to supplant Dinosauria so defined with Eudinosauria because of the earlier date of its definition. The taxon is regarded here as an objective synonym of Dinosauria. |
