Comments

Sereno (1991) accidentally provided both a node- and a stem-based definition for Dinosauromorpha. The stem-based definition, which has been subsequently cited by Arcucci (1997), is regarded here as the more useful and is revised accordingly. The active definition is a first-order revision of Sereno’s original stem-based definition that uses species as specifiers. It also includes two additional external specifiers to cover all of the most probable resolutions at the base of Archosauria, while maintaining the content of Dinosauromorpha as it is currently understood.

Should pterosaurs be positioned outside Archosauria, Dinosauromorpha would have precedence over Avemetatarsalia, a stem-based taxon that differs only by the inclusion of pterosaurs (see Avemetatarsalia for more discussion).
