Comments | The definition of Ceratopsoidea is a first order revision of that in Sereno (1998) that uses species. Wolfe and Kirkland (1998) recently proposed a form-qualified definition for Ceratopsomorpha based on the presence of brow horns. That definition overlaps with Ceratopsoidea in definitional type (stem) and taxonomic content. The node-stem triplet identified by Ceratopsoidea and its affiliated taxa present a more stable taxonomy than one based on an apomorphy that is not always preserved and subject to change during growth. Hay (1902) was first to use the superfamilial form of Marsh's family group (Ceratopsoidea), which he later modified to Ceratopsoidae (Hay 1930), here considered a spelling variant.
