Comments
Salgado et al. (1997) published the first definition of Eusauropoda as a node-based clade with Barapasaurus as the most basal member. However, the taxon was first coined by Upchurch (1995:372) with reference to a potentially more inclusive clade containing all sauropods more derived than Vulcanodon. This original concept would include sauropods such as Shunosaurus, which several subsequent authors place in a more basal position than Barapasaurus (Wilson and Sereno 1998; Yates and Kitching 2003; Harris and Dodson 2004; Allain et al. 2004). Wilson and Sereno (1998) slightly predates Sereno (1998) with the same definition.
